Return
to Top Fuel for former FIA Champion Barry Sheavills (“Mr
300 MPH”)
The
“fansfueler” project, the first of its kind
in Europe, is to be launched to the general public at
the European Finals on 9th to 12th September 2004, at
Santa Pod Raceway, England.
“fansfueler”
aims to create a fan based community in which members
contribute financially towards the cost of running a Top
Fuel Dragster. Former FIA Top Fuel Champion, Barry Sheavills,
is leading the initiative and will be driving the “fansfueler”
dragster in the 2005 FIA European Top Fuel championship,
if enough pledges are received to cover the cost of running
the car.
Contributing
fans will become the first to be part of the “fansfueler”
club, bringing with it a number of benefits, ranging from
exclusive clothing to spending a day with the fansfueler
crew. The most notable benefit however, is that every
member will have their name displayed on the car.
The
project follows the terminal damage caused to Barry’s
Carlube Triple R sponsored dragster during qualifying
at the 2002 FIA European Finals, which occurred whist
the dragster was approaching 300mph. Race fans will remember
that whilst the car itself was destroyed, amazingly, Barry
walked away with minor injuries and has lost none of his
desire to compete.
Since
then fans have offered considerable support to Barry,
both financially and otherwise, to get him back on the
track and this recent initiative is an attempt to create
a community of those dedicated fans.
The
“fansfueler” project, coordinated with the
help of Richard Stirling and Chris Parker, allows contributing
fans the unique opportunity to gain an insight into the
operational side of running a Top Fuel dragster.
